Our Junior Hurling team had a great win over Avondale in the quarter finals of the junior hurling A championship in Arklow on Sunday morning the final score 2-12 to 0-8, although losing some players to our senior hurling team last week, all the players selected for this  match gave it their all and were never in danger of losing although we only lead by 0-9 to 0-4 at halftime a great second half performance with two goals by Sean O’Neill paved the way for this victory in fact 8 of our players scored while the opposition scores came from frees. Our scores came from Sean O’Neill, 2-0, Kevin Byrne 0-4, Damien Byrne 2pts, Mark Pierce, John O’Keefe, John Cullen, Darren Hobson, Rickey Donegan & Owen Coogan 1pt.

We play Glenealy in the Semi-final in a date yet to be fixed by the County Board.  We are all hoping it will be fixed as soon as possible as the manager of the team Ray Kelly is emigrating to Australia at the end of the month Ray has done so much for this team by bring them to where they are today he will be sadly missed.

Our Senior Hurlers were beaten by Avondale in the quarter final of the Senior Hurling Championship in heart breaking circumstances in Arklow on Saturday evening on a score line of 3-10 to 2-11. After taking the game to Avondale thoughout and outplaying them in most positions throughout the game we were leading at halftime 1-6 to 1-4. We played the best hurling of the year and were leading by a one point margin with the clock ticking over to fulltime when Avondale struck a late goal to win the match by 2pts We had a last minute chance in injury time to win the game when Nigel Nolan got the ball at the edge of the square and struck it wide and so ended our championship in a year which we won our first ever championship, twenty five years ago which we will be honoured at this year’s Co. Hurling Final. Our scores came from Owen O’Neill 1-0, Ray Kelly 1-1, John Keogh 0-8, Ronan Byrne and Jeffery Bermingham 1pt each. Our thanks to manager Damien Scallon, his selector Eugene Byrne and the back room team for their effort in keeping hurling alive in the club.

Our Junior A Football team were well beaten by a very good Rathnew team in the semi-final of the Co. Junior A Championship in Roundwood on Saturday, final score 3-14 to 0-4.  We got off to the worst possible start as Rathnew had the ball in the back of the net after three minutes of play after that we were always chasing the game. At halftime we were 3-4 to 0-4 behind and in fact we did not score in the second half. Our scores came from Darren Hobson 3pts and Brian Cullen 1pt.  Our thanks to those who looked after the team Mick O’Toole, Mick Foley, Peter Byrne and John Byrne.

Our Junior Football team qualified for the Semi-final of this year’s Junior A Championship when we beat Eireog Greystones in Aughrim on Saturday evening 1-10 to 0-10 in an entertaining game. With both sides level at halftime 0-4 each, although we played with the wind in the first half and had missed a couple of golden chances of gaols and points it looked lf we would have an uphill battle in the second half. A well taken penalty ten minutes into the second half by Mark Ryan after a great run by the evergreen Denis Hayes, paved the way for this victory, although we had some anxious moments in the closing stages when Patrick Kearney saved a certain gaol on the goal line to secure a great victory. Our scores came from Mark Ryan 1-1, James Whelan 0-3, Brian Cullen 2pts, Liam Kavanagh, PJ Daly, Mark Pierce and Darren Hobson 1pt each.  We play Rathnew in the semi-final.

Our Senior Hurling team lost their last game in the Senior Hurling League Championship to St. Patrick’s Wicklow in Aughrim on Tuesday evening on a score line of 0-13 to 0-24.  Fielding short at least 6 regular players on this team, we put up a great performance for 45 minutes of this match and were only 2 points behind at half time 0-10 to 0-8.   John O’Toole made a welcome return to this team for the first time this year and even scored a point, Anthony Furlong also made a welcome return, team manager Eugene Byrne is confident that we will make progress if he gets the commitment of all players.  We play Arklow Rock Parnell’s in the play off.  Our scores came from Ray Kelly 8pts, John Keogh 4pts & John O’Toole 1pt.  We play Arklow Rocks next Saturday 15th September in Aughrim.

Our Junior Hurling had a narrow one point win over Eire Og/Greystones in their last match in the Junior Hurling Championship League in Greystones on Tuesday evening. The final score was 3-11 to 1-16.  They say that goals win matches and this was certainly the case on Tuesday evening when we were seven points behind Greystones/Eire Og going into the last two minutes of normal time, when John O’Keefe and Paddy Kearney scored a goal each to level the march and Kevin Byrne's point in injury time won us the game by the slenderest of margins, there was a great performance by all the players concerned, considering we were chasing the match from the start and were behind at halftime 1-9 to 1-5, but the never say die attitude by these players was the main factor in this victory. Our scores came from Kevin Byrne 1-2, John O’Keefe 1-2, Paddy Kearney 1-0, Liam Kavanagh 0-6, and John Cullen 1pt.  Team manager Ray Kelly has done a wonderful job since this league started, getting out teams and is now looking forward to the knock out stages for the real championship.
